The Beginning
Travis Prewitt is from Memphis Tennessee, with close ties to Jackson Mississippi. Since middle school, he has participated in award-winning band programs, beginning under the direction of the Legendary director, Reverend Victor McDowell, onward to Professor Michael D. Cowans, and finally under the direction of countless Musical geniuses at Jackson State University. He went on to arrange well over 100 marching band arrangements for the Famous “Sonic Boom of the South”, as well as the award-winning Jazz Band and Brasswind Ensemble, which he directed for a full year as an undergrad.
Education
Mr. Prewitt completed his Bachelor's Degree in Music from Jackson State University and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Music Education.
Passion
Mr. Prewitt was an intern with the Superior Rated Pride of Provine marching band for Provine high school before graduating and continued under the direct supervision of the legendary Dr. Lewis Liddell. Mr. Prewitt returned to his Alma matter High School for a brief period, then earned a job at the Kipp: Memphis Collegiate High School, where he created an award-winning, comprehensive music program, complete with a concert and jazz ensembles. Mr. Prewitt Worked at Kipp for 3 years, where he guided several students to life-changing scholarships. After those 3 years, Mr. Prewitt earned a job at Whitehaven high, a 4x nationals award-winning band program, and also earned the titles as the Head Band Director for the Memphis Mass Band, Memphis universal Alumni Band, and Memphis all-star band. All of his hard work and accolades also earned him a job as an arranger at Coahoma Community College, as well as an official Adjunct position at Lane College in Jackson, TN. Travis Prewitt is a founder of the Mississippi Music Institute, the Mississippi Alumni All-Star Band, The Magnolia All-Star Band, and the Annual Independence Showdown Battle of the Bands in Jackson Mississippi.
